RETEB

This platform, directed by Christian Deschepper, enables researchers to have access to tissues that come from cardiac transplants and from valve replacement surgeries. A project to collect adipose biopsy tissues is currently being developed. Tissues can be collected for specific projects upon the researcher's request. Researchers can also obtain internal mammary arteries by contacting the Reteb's coordinator, Cécile Nagy.

RETEB's database : all researchers can access the database with a user ID and a password (send a request to Cécile Nagy to obtain them).

Researchers can therefore :

  • Obtain general information about the patients, hearts and pathology reports. This information enables users to pre-select samples that meet their criteria.
  • The second level of access is reserved for researchers that already have the authorization to obtain samples. With that access-level, researchers have access to patient records (patient anonymity is always ensured).

Fine animal phenotyping

This multi-center platform, directed by Dr Éric Thorin, offers the following services :

  • Telemetry : arterial pressure measurement and ECG, hemodynamics measurement by pressure-volume recordings (Millar catheter);
  • in vivo cardiac function and isolated working heart apparatus;
  • echocardiography;
  • diffuse optical imaging;
  • positron emission tomography;
  • magnetic resonance imaging.

Congenital disease

This platform, directed by Dr Josep Rodés and Dr Paul Khairy, offers the following services :

  • Support for multicentre studies on congenital heart disease with the potential to recruit throughout Québec;
  • Consulting on the design of a clinical study on congenital heart disease;
  • Family studies (target identification using whole genome screens for linkage studies) and genotyping of cohorts of patients with specific pathologies.

Clinical research

This platform, directed by Dr Jean-Claude Tardif, offers the following services :

  • Consulting on the design of a clinical study (e.g. clinical trial, cohort study);
  • Consulting and statistical advice (for example: calculation of sample size);
  • Consulting and support in the design of economic or evaluative research substudies (health services research);
  • Consulting and support in the design of genetic clinical studies;
  • Consulting and support in the design of genetic substudies;
  • Consulting and support in the design of clinical epidemiology studies;
  • Gender and sex in the genesis of cardiovascular disease (Dr Pilote is the investigator of the GENESIS project) ;
  • Support for pharmacoepidemiology studies;
  • Use of administrative databases.

Informatics

This platform, directed by Dr Andrew Grant of CRED (Collaborative Research for Effective Diagnostics), performs the following activities :

  • Develop and promote, for the benefit of researchers, communication tools in order to increase their team's and their projects' exposure/visibility;
  • Assess the impact of electronic exchanges through prototyping projects for multi-site studies and computer tools used as support for management and follow-up (the PIERCE Program);
  • Act as adviser and evaluator in the design of complex web-based databases including the RETEB;
  • Organize meeting activities such as workshops or symposiums.
